SMITH, Janet Ethel – Age 91, formerly of Sombra Township passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care, Chatham. Daughter of the late Harvey and Marion (nee Brown) McLaughlin. Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Stanley William Smith (2008). Loving mother of Wayne (Lori) Smith, Lou Anne (Keith) Terry. Sadly missed by grandchildren Alex (Mary) Smith-Plasterer; Tori Smith (Rick Hardisty), Chris (Kortney) Terry and Kevin (Ashleigh) Terry. Beloved GG of Henry and Arlo; Margot; Kaydence, KC and Karter-Rose; Everett, Smith and Emilia. Dear sister of late Bill and Linda McLaughlin, late Don and Shirley McLaughlin, late Jessie and Murratte Mundy, late Bob and Marge McLaughlin, Gloria (late Joe) McLaughlin. Dear sister-in-law of Dorothy (late Calvin) Gonyou, Margaret (late Garnet) Thibault, Marguerite (late Jim) Smith and the late Betty and Glen Bullock. Also missed by her many nieces and nephews.

She was the very best Mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and scrabble player (even if she refused to get with the times and accept many of the two letter words more recently added to the scrabble dictionary!) She was kind and generous and strong. She was exceptionally hard working and extremely talented – she never met a craft or fibre art that she couldn’t do. She was hilarious and had a great (sometimes inappropriate) sense of humour that she kept until the very end. We love her so much and will miss her more than words can say.
