Margaret Mary (Griffiths) MacKenzie made her journey home into the arms of Our Lord and Saviour peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, surrounded by family in her 94th year, on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024.
Margaret was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her entire family. She passionately put her family first her entire life, to whom she loved deeply and was so proud of. She will be remembered for her incredible and uncanny memory of everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, and peoples passing right up until the very end.
Margaret loved God and was steadfast in her faith as a devout Catholic. She thoroughly enjoyed being a member of her Church (St. Joseph/St. Charles Parish) and the Catholics Women’s League. The Catholics Women’s League brought her many truly special friendships, with honourable mention to Mary (2013), Peggy (2018), Susan, and Rita.
Margaret treasured quality time with family and found great joy during her countless trips to visit her husband’s family in Shigawake on the Gaspe coast in Quebec, and to her beloved home in Ship Harbour and Corner Brook, Newfoundland to visit her many relatives, including her close friend, Aunt Mary.
Margaret was predeceased by her adoring husband, Colin Ian MacKenzie (2006), of 56 years. She was the treasured mother of 7 children, Doreen (Phil), Bonnie (Donnie), Greg (Julie), Mark (Lesley), Alan (Joyce) and Dale (Ineke). She was predeceased by her oldest son, Michael Wayne MacKenzie (1993), husband of Lori, and daughter-in-law Gail MacKenzie, wife of Greg. Margaret was the cherished grandmother of PJ (Eva), Peter (Ivy), Beckie (Mark), Robbie (Lorraine), Trisha (Megan), Mallory (Mark), Morgan (Steve), Sean (Patricia), Ian, Caitlyn (Kyle) and Nadine (Travis). She was blessed with 24 great grandchildren to whom she loved very much.
Margaret is survived by her beloved brothers Pat (Janet, 2024), Bob (Diana), Ray (Connie), Stan (Betty), Ron (Marianne), Leo (Marg), and her sisters Helen (Darrell, 2015) and Mary-Pat. She is survived by her dear sisters-in-law’s Shirley (Cliff, 1987), Edith (Warren, 2019) and Sheila (Wilfred, 2018), Margaret was predeceased by sisters-in-law’s Joan (2008), Iona (2005), and brother-in-law’s Jack (1985) and Elwyn (2003).
Margaret was a loyal daughter, predeceased by her parents Mary (1992) and Robert (1998), and her mother and father-in-law Annie (1988) and Earl (1983).
Margarets legacy of love, resilience, generosity, and selflessness will be remembered by all that had the great privilege of spending time with her during her life.
The MacKenzie family would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to the entire staff, including the volunteers, at the St Joseph’s Hospice for their exemplary care and compassion they extended to our mother and our family during the end of her life.
