After retirement in 1998, he ran his own Fire Equipment Service Business, Longley Enterprises. He loved to build or fix anything that anyone needed help with grandkids always said, grandpa can fix anything. He found joy in later years congregating with Pauline and friends at Tim Hortons. We want to thank Dr. Borek and staff (Tracy Williams), Dr. Lebert and the oncology team, Dr. Kim and the palliative team and the exceptional nurses on the 5th floor.

Condolences to the family. Our thoughts are with Kathy and her family.
Condolences to Howard’s family, I was one of the neighbourhood kids in the 70s that was lucky enough to see some of the projects Howard was always working on, he was a very talented mechanic who inspired me to become a mechanic years later.
To the Longley family- Howard was a great guy with many talents. He could fix and build anything mechanical as well as repair firearms. I enjoyed shooting at his place many times.
Howard was a good old neighbour when we lived on the family farm on petrolia line. On behalf our family i would like to send condolences to the longley family. From Bill and Ethan Long.
Kathy, Danielle and Paul,
Your Dad’s love and impact will continue to shine through you. I hope you find solace in knowing that he will always be with you in spirit—My deepest condolences.

Spent many hours as a teenager 50 years ago hanging out in Howard’s garage helping him build his dune buggies. The man could build anything.
Howard and I were long time best friends when I lived in Sarnia and he was Best Man at my Wedding.
We hunted, fixed, designed, built, and improved everything we came across. We raced Dune Buggies and told stories long into the night. Jackie and the Girls were his unwavering support. We used a secret password “Corvair” when our conversation needed to be guarded. He had ‘ways’ of dealing with mechanical items that did not go his way!
Rest in Peace My Friend and may the Snap-On guy up there live next door.
It is with heavy hearts we read of the passing of Howard. He spent many years of his life on the Leaper farms. He had never forgotten these times. He went to School with the family and many ballgames with us before we were married. These past few years we have been in touch once more. He got a chance to drive the H tractor before he got too weak. He will be missed by all, our dear friend.
Just wanted to offer my condolences at this time
Knowing Howard since the late 70’s and running into him again at Tim’s was as enjoyable as his stories
He’s sure gonna be missed . God Bless
60 years of friendship – you WILL be missed Howard – Bruce (and Kim)
To the Longley family, I am honored and blessed to have known Howard. I meet Howard through the fire service and he provided me with service and repairs to our equipment and was one of the best at his job. Spent a lot of time with him before he retired from on road the equipment repairs. He was truly a blessing in my life and I will miss him. My condolences.
Condolences to the family of Howard. It was always a pleasure to stop and chat with him. He will always be remembered in the community and will be missed.
Kathy, as mentioned before I am truly saddened to of heard this. He was a great man, always treated me with respect and made sure to go out of his way to wave or talk to me at Timmies. Unfortunately, I am traveling to Ottawa with Chase for a hockey tournament leaving on Jan 2, my thoughts and prayers to the whole family.
Keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time. Precious memories of Howard will always share a place in our hearts. ❤️
It is with great sadness that I write this message. I was privileged to be able to know Howard and call him my friend for more than 20 years. We met at my Fire Hall when he was servicing our fire trucks and after a lively conversation he ended up asking me to join him in his business. I was fortunate to be able to work alongside him for 7 years before he sold the business and retired. Since then we talked often and shared stories and memories of our days as firefighters, as well as our adventures hunting and fishing. I got to meet his family and share in some of their events and celebrations. He was a wonderful friend and will be truly missed. Rest in peace old friend until we meet again.
To Kathy & Krista and families & friend Pauline and in memory of Jackie
As a fellow firefighter, friend and client I was so fortunate to receive the “givings” of Howard and his beautiful girls, In a world of givers and takers Howard was such a Giver that so many of us are left with a feeling we have taken advantage of everything Howard. That goes beyond people lined up at his Telfer shop to the Sarnia Fire where he fixed/built equipment, built a Rescue truck, restored an antique truck and filled myself and others full of training knowledge etc etc. That goes beyond our Sarnia community when he took his business to a hundred or so fire departments throughout Central Ontario to the advantage of every Chief. Mr. SNAP-ON doing it right and tuning everything to beyond perfection.
Howard’s fire service provided the bond we developed. Many memories…….like riding the tailboard at 70 mph(only the former race driver could hit that speed) down Murphy with Howard at the wheel and feeling like a cartoon character flying perpendicular, Laying on the floor together on Davis seeing the devil in the flames overhead. Witnessing Howard’s near death experience on London Road.
Howard you found a rewarding life…… giving so much of your life to others you had no time to think of yourself. Myself and so many others are indebted for your actions, service and friendship. You have left the world tuned to perfection and pumped the world until the tank went dry. A job well done.
Indebted forever
Terry Norris & family
Thank you for your service
