GRANT, Gerald “Gerry” Mervin – After a heroic battle with cancer, passed away in the arms of his family on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia at the age of 80. Devoted husband of Darlene (nee Bastow) for 53 years. Loving father of Randy and Linda Grant, Kevin and Vicki (Adrian), James and Jenna Grant. Proud “Gramps” to Alison and Keli. Dear brother of Bob Grant, Lois Dixon, Jeanette and Mike Watson and sister-in-law Judy Grant. Predeceased by his parents Simon and Ina (Harkness) Grant and brothers Kenny and Dick. Gerry was a retired Carpenter from Polymer Corp., and an inductee of Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame with the 1960 Ontario Senior A and 1956/57/58 Ontario Senior B Baseball Champions, Wilkesport Tigers. Gerry also played for Petrolia, Waubuno, Sarnia Braves and Sarnia Easy Movers. He played Friday night hockey for years in Dresden. His presence at Germain and Errol Russell Parks will be missed. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and Gordie Howe. A special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice who helped Gerry in his final weeks.

PRIVATE FAMILY VISITATION/SERVICE
A private family visitation will be held at STEADMAN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPELS, Brigden followed by a private graveside service at Wilkesport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Joseph’s Hospice.
